Hofstra lands 7-footer Lual Manyang from Blair Academy, Sacred Heart transfer Tyler Thomas

By ADAM ZAGORIA

Hofstra has landed a commitment from 7-footer Lual Manyang of Blair Academy (N.J.).

The 3-star big man also held offers from Bryant, Charlotte and George Mason, among others.

“They believed in me,” Manyang said. “They like my ability to rim run, block shots and set three level ball screens.”

Manyang overcame a torn ACL.during April of his junior year at Blair.

Said Blair Academy coach Joe Mantegna: “No player I have ever coached at Blair has overcome more before getting to the finish line. Lual’s grit and perseverance are a thing of legend around here and his resilience in the face of so much adversity would have forced most of us to quit. He never considered it..”

Coach Speedy Claxton and his staff this week also landed Sacred Heart (CT) transfer Tyler Thomas, a 6-3 junior guard who chose the Pride over St. Bonaventure, Northeastern, Loyola Chicago, Indiana State, and Towson. He averaged 16.4 points, 3.4 rebounds and 2.6 assists last season.

According to the 247Sports Composite, Manyang is ranked as the No. 48 center and No. 314 overall prospect in the class of 2022.

“I like to play fast on transition and get into multiple ball screens,” he said. “I can dunk, shoot the mid-range and threes off of ball screens.”
