Dan Hurley and UConn continued their offseason makeover Wednesday when high-scoring transfer Tristen Newton announced he was joining the Huskies from East Carolina after a visit to campus.
The 6-foot-5 Texas native averaged 17.7 points, 5.0 assists and 4.8 rebounds last season as a sophomore.
Three guards transferred out of UConn in Corey Floyd Jr., Jalen Gaffney and Rahsool Diggins, while forward Akok Akok is also in the Transfer Portal.
The 6-9 Akok averaged 3.4 points and 3.2 rebounds as a junior. He initially chose UConn over Georgetown, Providence, Pittsburgh and Syracuse in December 2018 and then enrolled that January. He was hampered by injuries during his college career and surpassed in the rotation by players like Adama Sanogo and other bigs.
