High-major schools reaching out to Illinois transfer Andre Curbelo

By ADAM ZAGORIA

After announcing Monday he would transfer from Illinois, sophomore point guard Andre Curbelo has heard from a number of high-major schools.

St. John’s, Kansas State, Saint Mary’s, Clemson, Texas A&M, Georgia Tech, Pittsburgh and Gonzaga have reached out, according to a source in Curbelo’s camp.

The 6-foot-1 Curbelo initially committed to Illinois in November 2019 out of Long Island Lutheran. He also held offers from Indiana, Texas A&M, Kansas, Oregon, Florida, UConn, Georgetown, Providence, Louisville, Boston College, Pitt, Maryland and Texas Tech.

Curbelo averaged 7.5 points and 3.2 assists this season after sustaining a concussion in October.

Illinois this week also had a home visit with Class of 2022 point guard Skyy Clark, a former Kentucky commit.
