Gatorade Announces Top 3 Finalists for National Boys Basketball Player of the Year

Gatorade announced its top three contenders for the 2021-22 Gatorade National Boys Basketball Player of the Year award Friday, featuring Kansas commit Gradey Dick, Duke commit Dariq Whitehead and Kentucky commit Chris Livingston.

Dick, the 6-foot-6, 195-pound small forward from Sunrise Christian (KS) Academy, is the 2021-22 Gatorade Kansas Boys Basketball Player of the Year and has averaged 17.9 points, 5.2 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 1.9 steals through 26 games, leading Sunrise to a 25-1 record.  

Whithead, the 6-foot-6, 190-pound small forward from Montverde (FL) Academy, is the 2021-22 Gatorade Florida Boys Basketball Player of the Year and was recently named Naismith Boys’ High School Player of the Year after averaging 17.1 points, 5.1 rebounds and 3.4 assists this season.

Livingston, the 6-foot-6, 200-pound small forward from Oak Hill (VA) Academy, is the 2021-22 Gatorade Virginia Boys Basketball Player of the Year and has averaged 18.2 points, 9.1 rebounds, 3.9 assists, 1.9 steals and 1.4 blocks per game through 40 games this season.

Gonzaga’s Chet Holmgren is the most recent recipient of the award, taking home the honors for the 2020-21 season.

The winner of the 2021-22 Gatorade National Boys Basketball Player of the Year Award is set to be announced the week of Monday, March 21.
