No. 1 Gonzaga among record 7 top-10 men’s basketball teams to lose Saturday

History was made amid a blizzard of college basketball upsets on Saturday.

For the first time in the history of the AP Poll (1948-49), the top six teams in the poll all lost on the same day — and for the first time seven of the Top 10 teams went down. All seven lost on the road.

Including Saturday, the top six teams have played on the same day 272 times.

No. 1 Gonzaga capped the historic group of losses by falling to No. 13 Saint Mary’s, 67-57. It was the Bulldogs’ third loss of the season after falling to Duke and Alabama. They are 0-3 when trailing at the half.

Before the Gonzaga loss, No. 2 Arizona, No. 3 Auburn, No. 4 Purdue, No. 5 Kansas, No. 6 Kentucky and No. 9 Texas Tech all lost away from home.

Despite all the losses, the Bracketology didn’t change much at the top, although Baylor moved up to the 1 line after its 80-70 win over Kansas.
