UConn freshman guard Corey Floyd Jr. will redshirt the season in 2021-22, the school announced.
Floyd elected to reclassified to 2021 from 2022 out of Roselle Catholic High School, as I first reported in August on NJ Advance Media. He turns 18 until Jan. 14.
Floyd will continue to practice and travel with the Huskies throughout the season, although he will not participate in collegiate competition. He will have four years of eligibility remaining, beginning in 2022-23.
As a junior at Roselle Catholic in 2020-21, the 6-3 combo guard averaged 16.5 points, 4.0 rebounds and 2.7 assists to lead the team to a 12-3 record and a No. 3 ranking in the N.J.com Top 20. As a sophomore the previous season, he averaged 11.1 points and 2.6 assists as he helped Roselle post a 22-7 mark and win the North Non-Public B Championship.
In July, Floyd helped Team Final win the Peach Jam title.
