Cam Whitmore, the 6-foot-6 wing forward from Archbishop Spalding (MD) and Team Melo, committed to Villanova on Thursday.
Ranked the No. 7 small forward in the Class of 2022 per 247Sports.com, Whitmore chose the Wildcats over Illinois and North Carolina after cutting Georgetown, Maryland, Notre Dame, Louisville, Florida, Penn State and Miami from his previous list of 10.
“They treated me like it was family,” said Whitmore on CBS Sports HQ. “That was a big part: They treated everyone like family.”
Whitmore was named Baltimore Catholic League Player of the Year honors last season when he averaged 22.0 points and 11.7 rebounds a game.
“After coaching Cam in 17U EYBL this past spring/summer and watching him develop the past few years going back to 8th grade, Cam has taken a major leap in development,” Team Melo coach Jerard Rucker said.
“His shot-making ability stretching out to 3-point range is most impressive. His ball-handling and slashing determination has improved with added overall understanding of the game. He already possesses elite athleticism. I’m super excited to see Cam at the next level. The sky is the limit.”
He joins four-star guards Mark Armstrong and Brendan Hausen in Villanova’s 2022 class.
