Top-100 guard Miles Byrd has committed to San Diego State University, he tells ZAGSBLOG.
“The city of San Diego is amazing,” Byrd said. “I’m a California kid. I haven’t lived in any other state, so I’m very familiar with this state. San Diego, beautiful. That was my first time touring and being around in San Diego, then along with the staff.”
Byrd, the 6-foot-6, 165-pound shooting guard from Lincoln (CA) and the West Coast Elite AAU Program, took his official visit to San Diego State from Sept. 3-5 and noted his relationship with the staff as a main factor in his decision.
“Something that really led me to San Diego State was just being able to say I’m close with all four coaches on staff, along with the strength and conditioning coach, the ops guy – I’m close with most of the people throughout that campus because that’s what they really focused on.”
Byrd also took official visits to Colorado State, Washington and Saint Mary’s before ultimately deciding on the Aztecs.
After joining four-star forward Elijah Saunders in the Aztecs’ 2021 class, Byrd says the Aztecs may not be done yet as he looks to help SDSU land four-star guard Koren Johnson.
“That’s our dream class right there: Me, Koren and Elijah,” Byrd said.
Ranked by 247Sports.com as the No. 10 shooting guard and No. 89 overall prospect in the class of 2022, Byrd describes himself as a willing passer that defends at a high-level and can shoot the ball.
“I hope to come to San Diego State, help the team out, help the team win and be a fan favorite,” he said.
