Former Rutgers guard Corey Chandler will decide on Sunday between Binghamton and St. Bonaventure, according to Newark East Side coach Bryant Garvin.
The 6-foot-2 Chander, recently dismissed from the Rutgers team for a violation of team rules, visited Binghamton Tuesday-Thursday this week and will go to St. Bonaventure Saturday.
“He was interested in a couple other schools, but basically thgose schools are closer to Newark as far as him being able to go see his child,” said Garvin, referring to Chandler’s 7-month-old son in Newark.
Asked when Chandler would decide, Garvin said, “Sunday. School’s going to start on Monday.”
Garvin said Memphis was not a candidate because it was too far away from Newark. Rider also inquired but does not have an available scholarship.
St. Bonaventure earlier this summer landed Houston transfer Horace McGloster, also a Newark native. The 6-7 McGloster must sit out next year.
Chandler was dismissed from the Rutgers team earlier this month after a violation of team rules.
“We wish Corey the best as he moves forward,” Rutgers head coach Fred Hill said in a statement. “We consider this a family matter and there will be no further comment.”
Chandler averaged 7.0 points and 3.3 rebounds last season.
He will have to sit out a season before suiting up in 2010-11.

i don’t see why memphis wants another guard especially when we need help in the frontcourt, but we need bodies especially with 9 scholarship players, and the recent arrival of elliot williams. this will make us deeper, but it will affect our recruiting class for next year, maybe pastner should reach out and get the guy who just left marquette. he’s a forward, and we need help there

Don’t ant to take a shot at CC, but the talk of Memphis (alongside SUNY-Binghamton and St. Bonnies) Seems like silly Garvin-talk.
