Vince Iwuchukwu, the 7-foot five-star center from Montverde (FL) Academy and the Drive Nation AAU program, committed to Southern Cal on Friday.
Ranked the No. 4 center in 2022 by 247Sports.com, he also considered Baylor, Kansas, Texas and UCLA. He is USC’s fourth five-star big man in the last four classes.
“Vince has only played basketball for four years and has quickly developed into one of the best big men in high school basketball,” Montverde coach Kevin Boyle said.
“He has the potential to be an elite defender with the ability to protect the rim and to either contain, blitz or switch on a ball screen. Offensively, he has great potential to screen and sprint to the rim for a dunk or force the corner defenders to help. He also has great quickness to face up and beat his opponent off the bounce.”
The 7-footer has taken it upon himself to improve his game over the past year. He is an elite shot-blocker with unlimited potential on the offensive end. When engaged, he looks like the best player in the country, from his ability to shoot threes, dominate on the glass, and being a presence at the rim. Once he polishes his skillset, Iwuchukwu will develop into a high major big man and could be a one-and-done NBA selection.
He joins shooting guard Oziyah Sellers and power forward Kijani Wright in USC’s 2022 class.
He joins a growing list of Montverde players committed for 2022 including Skyy Clark (Kentucky), Dariq Whitehead (Duke), Malik Reneau (Florida), and Jalen Hood-Schifino (Indiana).
