2022 big Ernest Udeh Jr. says six schools working hardest

By JACOB POLACHECK

After an excellent showing at the Pangos All-American Camp in Las Vegas, Ernest Udeh Jr. is climbing his way up the 2022 ranks.

The 6-foot-10, 230-pound center from Dr. Phillips (FL) High School and the Southeast Elite Grassroots Academy AAU Program, is a high-motor player that can be dynamic on both sides of the floor.

“I think my ability to be an offensive threat now was something that was showcased more this weekend,” Udeh told ZAGSBLOG Friday.

Ranked by 247Sports.com as the No. 20 center in the class of 2022, Udeh is drawing the interest of numerous high-major schools with Kansas, Ole Miss, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Florida and Creighton working the hardest.

“I have more obviously but those have been showing the most love lately,” he said.

He broke down each school:

Kansas: “Everyone knows Kansas and their success with bigs. One of the things I’m looking for when making my decision is someone that can develop me and take me to that next level. Kansas could be one of the places that does that.”

Ole Miss: “They’ve been showing me a lot of love. I actually worked out with one of their guys, Robert [Allen], a couple weekends back. They’re showing a lot of love overall.”

Georgia: “They’re also a great school. My boy Tyrone Baker committed to them the season before this upcoming season. That’s when they first caught my attention because Ty is a great guy and he makes good decisions. They appealed to me and then they offered. They made it known to me that they don’t take it lightly. If they offer me it’s because they see something in me and think I could be really special.”

Georgia Tech: “They’ve been following me for a while. They offered me, but I still want to get more information over there. We’ll probably set up a Zoom sometime. That’s still in the works.”

Florida: “It’s in-state and everyone is telling me about staying in-state, this and that. The location really doesn’t matter to me, but Florida has always been showing me love so that’s all I can really say.

Creighton: “They offered and I still have a lot to learn about them, but I’d say the relationship is really good.”

Udeh is also starting to receive interest from Michigan with head coach Juwan Howard calling him after his performance at Pangos.

“He got to know me a little bit,” Udeh said. “He asked about my family. The relationship is process building right now. He’s a really good guy.”

Udeh says he plans on taking visits in late July or early August, but does not have any set at the moment.

“I’m looking for a place that I really feel comfortable with, a place that allows me to develop not only as a basketball player, but as a human being,” he said. “I want to go to school that will take me where I need to go and a place that I can fit in with the play style. My goal is to help my team, even if I don’t have to score, I want to be one of the best available options on the team.”
