Jason Asemota drawing high-major interest as one of 2024’s top prospects

By JACOB POLACHECK

Jason Asemota of Brewster (N.H.) Academy and Expressions Elite is quickly developing a reputation as one of the top wing prospects in the Class of 2024.

Standing at 6-foot-7, 190-pounds, Asemota’s physical tools are eye-catching to scouts and coaches alike.

“It’s not often you even see wings exit high school with those attributes,” 247Sports National Basketball Analyst Travis Branham said. “Yet, he’s already there at that early stage of development.”

Despite his current reputation as one of the nation’s top freshmen, Asemota is far from an overnight sensation.

From the instant he picked up a basketball at the age of five, Asemota, due to his remarkable height and frame was expected to man the paint and develop into an elite frontcourt prospect.

It wasn’t until he reached middle school that Asemota was introduced to Expressions Elite coach Ken Jackson, completely reimagining his game and potential.

“I have many skills and can be very versatile,” Asemota said. “Being a big man is just not where my game is.”

Under Jackson’s tutelage, Asemota extended his game beyond the paint, showcasing his smooth jump shot and ability to get to the rim.

“I’ve seen Jason develop as an athlete, but most importantly as a person,” Jackson said. “Our relationship grew as his trust in me grew. I challenge him to get better on and off the court.”

His trust was clearly on display a few years back when Asemota dropped 25 points in a middle school game, showing the first glimpse of what’s to come.

“He’s not only able to make shots from beyond the strip, but he’s also able to connect from the mid-range with one-and-two dribble pull ups,” Branham said. “Asemota has tremendous upside as a three-and-D prospect, but also has more to his game.”

College scouts are becoming more and more aware of this upside, with Asemota drawing interest from Power Five schools ranging from the ACC to the Big Ten and Big 12.

And despite being far from a college decision, Asemota has been following a number of schools for quite some time.

“Definitely Oregon,” he said. “A few of my favorite schools are UConn, Syracuse and Kentucky as well.”

Being one of 2024’s most heralded prospects, Asemota says he’s looking for a school that will give him an opportunity for immediate playing time.

“It’s all about if I can play there and if it would be a good fit for me,” he said.

With the AAU season well underway and the NCAA quiet period now in effect, Asemota has the opportunity to prove his worth as someone that can compete at the highest level.

“I strive to be a winner every game,” he said. “I play with my heart because of the time I put in on the court.”
