After losing to Montverde (FL) Academy in the GEICO National Championship Game, Sunrise (KS) Christian Academy is reloading for the 2021-22 season.
The newest addition to the Sunrise roster was announced Friday when class of 2022 five-star forward Mark Mitchell announced his transfer from Bishop Miege (KS) High School.
“It’s close to home and it’s a good group of genuine people who can help me improve in all facets of life,” Mitchell told ZAGSBLOG.
The 6-foot-8, 205-pound small forward from Mission, KS, is ranked by 247Sports.com as the No. 4 small forward and No. 10 overall prospect in the class of 2022.
Mitchell has already set a number of official visit trips for this month including UCLA (June 6-7), Missouri (June 12), Oklahoma State (June 19-20) and Duke (June 28-29).
He is looking to visit Kansas for Late Night in the Phog, which is yet to be scheduled.
Mitchell is also being recruited by Kansas State, Kentucky, Arkansas, Texas, USC, Wake Forest and others.
He joins a Sunrise roster that finished the 2020-21 season with a 19-3 record, led by Baylor signee Kendall Brown, Tennessee signee Kennedy Chandler and Kansas signee Zachary Clemence.
“Mark is an extremely gifted versatile basketball player,” Sunrise Christian head coach Luke Barnwell said. “He will have the ability to affect the game every possession. I’m excited to work with him at SCA next year.”
Mitchell is set to team up with 2022 Kansas commit Gradey Dick, uncommitted 2022 forward Bobi Klintman and uncommitted 2023 guard Layden Blocker, among others.
Mitchell and Dick have previously played together with the KC Run GMC AAU program.
“It’s good to know someone who was already there a year,” Mitchell said. “So that definitely helped.”
The Buffaloes are set to participate in the National Interscholastic Basketball Conference for the 2021-22 season, which features traditional power Oak Hill (VA) Academy, Montverde (FL) Academy, IMG (FL) Academy, La Lumiere School (IN) and Wasatch (UT) Academy, among others.
