Rutgers officially signs LSU transfer Aundre Hyatt

By ADAM ZAGORIA

After getting a commitment from LSU transfer Aundre Hyatt on April 25, Rutgers made the signing official on Thursday.

The 6-foot-6 LSU transfer from The Bronx averaged 4.0 points and 3.1 rebounds as a sophomore. He went for 13 points and 10 boards in LSU’s first-round NCAA Tournament over over St. Bonaventure.

“We are thrilled to officially welcome Aundre Hyatt to the Rutgers Basketball family,” head coach Steve Pikiell said. “Aundre is a versatile and talented player who is fired up to come back to his home area and help Rutgers Basketball continue our ascension in the Big Ten Conference. His multi-positional skillset is a perfect fit for our playing style and his experience competing and winning at a high level for one of the top programs in the SEC will be a great addition to our locker room. Off the court, Aundre is a mature and focused student-athlete who prioritizes academics and community relations. Aundre is a young man that Rutgers Nation will love both on and off the court.”

Hyatt initially chose LSU in 2018 over Rutgers and Seton Hall after visiting Rutgers that year.

“Aundre said it was important to play in front of his family, friends, and loved ones and he wanted to be back in the Northeast to finish his collegiate career,” said his mentor, Mike Mathews.

“Coach [Steve] Pikiell said that he adores Aundre…..always had and always will and he will be a player who will bring value and experience to his program.”

The Scarlet Knights lost center Myles Johnson to UCLA, Montez Mathis to St. John’s, Mamadou Doucoure to La Salle and Jacob Young.
