No. 1 Montverde Academy defeats No. 2 Sunrise Christian Academy to win GEICO Nationals Championship

By JACOB POLACHECK

For the fifth time in nine years, head coach Kevin Boyle and the Montverde (FL) Academy Eagles are GEICO National champions.

Montverde defeated Sunrise Christian (KS) Academy in the GEICO Nationals Championship Game Saturday 62-52.

This marks Montverde’s third win over Sunrise in four meetings this season.

Montverde had three players finish in double figures, led by Michigan signee Caleb Houstan (16 points), Baylor signee Langston Love (13 points) and Creighton commit Ryan Nembhard (12 points).

Nembhard’s older brother, Andrew, will play for Gonzaga in the Final Four on Saturday night as the Zags are set to take on UCLA.
