Four-star guard Tamar Bates decommits from Texas

By JACOB POLACHECK

Class of 2021 shooting guard Tamar Bates has de-committed from Texas, he announced Monday via Twitter.

“After a lot of careful consideration and conversation with my family I have decided to request a release from my letter of intent with the University of Texas Men’s Basketball team,” Bates said.

The 6-foot-4, 175-pound shooting guard from IMG Academy (FL), originally committed to Texas on August 28 over Kansas, Iowa State, Missouri, Creighton, Oregon and Alabama.

Bates’ decision to de-commit comes just three days after it was announced that Texas head coach Shaka Smart was leaving the program to take the same position at Marquette.

Texas currently has the No. 37-ranked recruiting class in 2021 per 247Sports with commitments from four-star guard Emarion Ellis, four-star forward David Joplin and three-star forward Keeyan Itejere.
