With the live period underway, offers are expected to come in for class of 2023 prospects, but Kylan Boswell could’ve never expected a week like this.
“It’s been pretty crazy, it’s pretty hectic,” Boswell told ZAGSBLOG Monday evening. “It’s all new to me. I’m trying to build a strong relationship with coaches early. Finding a school that fits my style of play is all I’m looking for in a college program.”
Boswell, the 6-foot-1, 180-pound point guard from Corona (CA) Centennial, has received offers from Washington, Louisville, Arizona, Texas Tech, UNLV, Texas and Kansas in the last two days.
He broke down each school:
Washington: “I just got off the phone with Quincy Pondexter and he told me that I did well this weekend. He said they like my game and they offered me a scholarship there. I don’t really know much about Washington yet, but hopefully throughout the recruiting process I’ll learn more about the programs.”
Louisville: “It was a great call with coach [Chris] Mack. He told me a lot about the program, teaching me about Louisville, their tradition and culture. I really enjoyed my call with him. But like I said, I’m just learning more about the process and stuff with the programs.”
Arizona: “I also really enjoyed talking to their coach, the interview with coach [Tommy] Lloyd. I really like Arizona’s program. Coach Lloyd seemed very interested in me, trying to build that relationship early. Coming from Gonzaga and a winning culture, that’s all I can ask for.”
Texas Tech: “I’ve been watching Texas Tech over the past year. They have a good program as well. I’m trying to learn more about them. Mac McClung went there. He’s one of my favorite players in college, so that was a big pickup for them, too. I’m still trying to learn more about all the programs that have interest in me.
UNLV: “Coach [Kevin] Kruger is from Champaign. With UNLV, they want me to come down there and look at their program as well. I don’t really know much about UNLV. I know about the Runnin’ Rebels, but I’m still trying to learn as much as I can about these new programs.”
Texas: “I like Texas, too. They did well this year. That loss in the tournament was kind of a bummer. I’m still trying to learn more about them too.”
Kansas: “Bill Self is one of the GOAT’s of coaching college basketball. It’s always been a winning school. That’s always been a blue-blood, top school to pick up an offer from, so it’s a blessing.”
Boswell’s spike in interest can largely be attributed to his performance these past few weeks, first leading his Corona Centennial squad to a CIF Open Division Championship win over Sierra Canyon (CA) High School on June 11.
“That was a crazy experience, having celebrities at the game, competing with a team like Sierra Canyon with Amari Bailey and Shy Odom,” Boswell said. “Going away, playing there and beating them with their home crowd, it’s a great experience.”
Soon after, Boswell helped lead Corona Centennial to a Section 7 Championship in Phoenix, AZ.
“Our team is a great team to play with,” Boswell said. “I couldn’t ask for a better team to go down there and play with. Most of my success on the court comes from my teammates. We have a great coaching staff: Shannin Sharpe, Josh Giles. I feel like we played really well out there and did what we needed to do to win.”
Moving forward, Boswell is looking to show coaches that this attention is no fluke.
“When I’m on the court, I’m not going to quit,” Boswell said. “Hopefully coaches can see I have a high-motor. At all times I’m going 100 percent, trying to win the game. At the end of the day, I just want everybody to know that I’m a winner. That’s what I do.”
