Gonzaga, Baylor, Michigan and Ohio State were named the Top 4 projected seeds by the NCAA Tournament Selection Committee on Saturday.
Illinois, Villanova, Alabama and Houston are the projected 2 seeds. The Big 12 had five of the top 16 seeds and the Big Ten four.
“To no one’s surprise, these two teams are considered the best of the best,” said Mitch Barnhart, the Director of Athletics at the University of Kentucky and chair of the committee. “Gonzaga and Baylor have been dominant teams to this point, and while there’s no reason to think that won’t continue, the beauty of college basketball is that anything can happen on a given night.”
After losing $375 million by canceling last year’s tournament, the NCAA hopes to have fans this year when all games will be played in a bubble in Indianapolis.
“We’re optimistic and hopeful” for a “limited capacity” of fans, Danny Gavitt, NCAA Senior Vice President of Basketball, said on CBS, adding there will definitely be “player guests.”
