Basketball Hall of Fame names Top 10 candidates for Jerry West Shooting Guard of the Year Award

The Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame announced today the Top 10 candidates for the 2021 Jerry West Shooting Guard of the Year Award on Tuesday.

The watchlist features four seniors in Austin Peay’s Terry Taylor, Baylor’s MaCio Teague, Oregon’s Chris Duarte and Saint Louis’ Jordan Goodwin.

Three juniors made the cut in Gonzaga’s Joel Ayayi, Iowa’s Joe Wieskamp and Kansas’ Ochai Agbaji.

UConn’s James Bouknight and Michigan’s Franz Wagner were the two sophomore selected to the watchlist.

LSU freshman Cameron Thomas is the lone freshman on the watchlist after averaging an SEC-leading 21.7 points per game. He is also averaging 2.6 rebounds and 1.3 assists in 14 games this season.

Last season, Seton Hall senior guard Myles Powell took home the award. Despite battling multiple injuries, Powell averaged 21.0 points, 4.3 rebounds and 2.9 assists per game finishing as Seton Hall’s third all-time leading scorer with 2,252 points.

In late February, five finalists will be presented to Mr. West and the Hall of Fame’s selection committee. The winner of the 2021 Jerry West Award will be presented April 9, 2021, along with the other four members of the Men’s Starting Five.
