UConn’s James Bouknight out following surgery

UConn sophomore guard James Bouknight underwent surgery Tuesday on his left elbow and will be out of action for an indefinite period, the school announced.

The Brooklyn native suffered the injury in the final minutes of the first half during UConn’s game at Marquette on Jan. 5, diving to the floor for a loose ball and having a Marquette defender land on his extended left arm.

Bouknight is UConn’s leading scorer, averaging 20.3 points, as well as 5.3 rebounds per game, with a .451 field goal percentage. He was an All-BIG EAST Preseason Second Team pick and has twice been named to the league’s weekly Honor Roll.

His progress will be closely monitored by the UConn athletic training staff and medical professionals. There is no timetable for his return.
