Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski revealed Monday that his daughter and granddaughter had both tested positive for COVID-19 but are “doing a lot better.”
“My daughter and my granddaughter are better,” Coach K said on an ACC conference call. “They were the ones who tested positive and they have, especially my daughter had a little bit of a tough time, but they’re doing a lot better yesterday and today.”
Coach K sat out Duke’s win over Boston College last Wednesday due to COVID protocols. He said at the time that a member of his family had tested positive but that he and his wife Mickie had not.
After quarantining for a week, Coach K returned for Duke’s 79-68 win over Wake Forest on Saturday.
The Blue Devils visit Virginia Tech on Tuesday and Coach K said freshman Jalen Johnson (foot) will make the trip.
A projected NBA lottery pick, Johnson worked out on Sunday after having been out since mid-December.
“He will go on the trip and he will suit up against Virginia Tech,” Coach K said. “I’m not sure we’ll play him yet. We have a little bit of time after this game to get him back into condition and hopefully during that time, get Patrick [Tape] back. We don’t have many big guys and you lose two guys like that, even though our perimeter has done a great job, we need to get those guys back.
“But he’s doing well. We’re pleased. He’s got the medical go-ahead to go forward but it’s a matter of conditioning and getting himself back on track.”
