2021 Michigan State signee Jaden Akins to finish senior season at Sunrise Christian Academy after leaving Ypsi Prep

By JACOB POLACHECK

After leaving Ypsilanti Prep (MI) earlier this month, Michigan State signee Jaden Akins will spend the remainder of his senior season at Sunrise Christian (KS) Academy, the school announced via Twitter Wednesday.

“Adding Jaden comes at a great time for our program,” Sunrise Christian head coach Luke Barnwell said Wednesday. “Jaden will add some tenacity and edge with ability to score. We will be playing the toughest schedule we’ve ever played and adding Jaden allows us to have legit depth to compete against the nations best.”

Akins, the 6-foot-3, 170-pound point guard, will join a Sunrise Christian roster that features five-star Baylor signee Kendall Brown, five-star Tennessee signee Kennedy Chandler, four-star Kansas signee Zachary Clemence and three-star Minnesota signee Kenny Pohto, among others.

Ranked by 247Sports.com as the No. 11 point guard and No. 64 overall prospect in the Class of 2021, Akins signed with Michigan State on Nov. 11, joining five-star shooting guard Max Christie and four-star combo guard Pierre Brooks II in the Spartans’ 2021 class.
