Preston Murphy Jr., the 6-foot-1 Class of 2022 point guard from St. Andrew’s School (R.I.), has committed to DePaul, he announced on Twitter.

Murphy is the son of former Rhode Island and Creighton assistant, Preston Murphy. He also held offers from Clemson, Siena, Bryant, Rhode Island, UMass and Buffalo, per 247Sports.com.
“They just prioritized me throughout the whole recruiting process and they talked to me a lot,” Murphy told 247. “I really trust them, coach [Dave] Leitao has a great plan for mean and it’s a great school, a great city and a great conference. I just really trust the plan and vision that coach Leitao has for my future.”
DePaul compares him to current guard and former Kansas guard Charlie Moore.
“Just the same type of way he has the team oriented around Charlie Moore,” Murphy said. “The style of play, needing someone in my position in my class, a lot of the stuff that you see with Charlie Moore, just the same type of style as that.”
Murphy is DePaul’s first commit in 2022. They have the No. 7 class in 2021 with five commits, per 247.
“Preston has the mechanics and work ethic to attain high-level skills on both the offensive and defensive side of the court,” St. Andrew’s coach Mike Hart said. “He had embraced the weight room and has two full seasons left at St Andrew’s to get ready for DePaul.
“Although he likes to score and we have an outstanding senior point guard this year, Preston will spend time playing the position while attaining the knowledge to play there in college. He could be a terrific scoring point guard in the future!”
