NCAA cleared Kentucky’s Olivier Sarr two months ago; needs SEC waiver to play

By ADAM ZAGORIA

Kentucky’s Olivier Sarr was granted a waiver two months ago by the NCAA and he is awaiting a waiver from the SEC, ZAGSBLOG has independently confirmed.

The news of the NCAA granting the waiver was first reported by ESPN’s Dick Vitale.

ZAGSBLOG first reported Monday that the holdup is the SEC rule mandating that undergraduate transfers have two seasons of competition remaining. The 7-foot Frenchman played three seasons at Wake Forest and has only one year remaining.

An SEC spokesman said Monday Sarr would need a waiver from the conference to become eligible, but declined to comment on what waivers are or are not “in house.”

Sarr averaged 13.7 points, 9.0 rebounds and 1.2 blocks per game as a junior last season, notching 11 double-doubles. He was arguably the top transfer on the market this spring.
