Houston lands three-star forward Robbie Armbrester

By JACOB POLACHECK

Robbie Armbrester, the 6-foot-6, 215-pound power forward from Wasatch (UT) Academy, has committed to Houston, he told ZAGSBLOG ahead of his public announcement.

Ranked as the No. 26 power forward in the Class of 2021 per 247Sports, he also held offers from Georgia Tech, Texas A&M, Virginia Tech, Charleston Southern, La Salle, Troy, UAB and Xavier, among others.

“I’m committing to the University of Houston,” he said.

“The coaching staff did a great job of recruiting me,” Armbrester said. “They made me a priority and believed in me. They were telling me how they can develop my game and help me improve on and off the court.

“The head coach [Kelvin Sampson] is good with player development. He’s done some work with the Houston Rockets and James Harden. He helped with his footwork. They like my playing style.”

Despite not taking an in-person visit, Armbrester was able to take a virtual visit with the coaching staff before committing.

“The coaches kept it real with me,” he said. “Some coaches want to sugar coat things and tell the players what they want to hear, but the Houston coaches kept it real with me throughout the process. That stood out to me.”

Armbrester joins three-star forward Ramon Walker as the second commit in Houston’s 2021 class.

“I think my game will translate great,” Armbrester said. “They have a lot of players like me. I love to rebound and they love to rebound too. I think my game will translate great.

“Houston fans can expect a versatile player. I’m going to do everything I can to play the Houston way. I’m versatile. I can shoot the three. I can drive, dunk and I’m very athletic. They’re going to get 100 percent every game. I’m going to do everything I can to win.”
