Texas lands Class of 2021 combo guard Tamar Bates

By JACOB POLACHECK

Tamar Bates has committed to Texas.

Bates, the 6-foot-4 combo guard from Kansas City, KS and IMG Academy (FL), announced his commitment via Instagram Live Friday.

Ranked the No. 9 combo guard in the Class of 2021 per 247Sports.com, Bates chose Texas over Kansas, Iowa State, Missouri, Creighton, Oregon and Alabama.

Bates joins three-stars Emarion Ellis, David Joplin and Keeyan Itejere as the fourth commit in the Longhorns’ 2021 class.

During the 2019-20 season at Piper (K.S.) High School, Bates was named Kansas Class 4A Player of the Year after setting school records with 490 total points and a 21.3 points per game average.

He announced his transfer from Piper to IMG Academy earlier this month.
