Like his teammate Donald Villard, Class of 2023 point guard John Kallon is gaining national attention as a high-level Division 1 prospect.
Kallon, the 6-foot-3 point guard from City on the Hill (MA) Charter School and the Undivided Basketball Club AAU Program, says he wants to take visits to DePaul and Georgia.
He broke down each school for ZAGSBLOG by phone Tuesday evening:
DePaul: “They play in the Big East. That’s pretty exciting. They’re down in Chicago.”
Georgia: “I’ll be interested to go down there and take a look. Anthony Edwards went there. I look up to him a lot. I like his play style. They’re in the SEC.”
He currently holds offers from DePaul and Bryant with interest from Georgia, Marquette, Providence, Northeastern, Boston University, Fairfield, Louisiana Lafayette and Seton Hall.
“To be honest, I look at where they are,” Kallon said on what he’s looking at when evaluating these schools. “I see what they do and try to look at their facilities a little bit. I just try to see how things work.”
During the 2019-20 season, Kallon averaged 20 points, seven rebounds and five assists per game.
“John is one of the hardest working kids I have ever coached in my young career,” City on a Hill head coach Timmance McKinney said. “He’s all of 6-foot-3. He’s a point guard that can do everything.
“The thing that stands out to me the most about John is that he’s always watching tape on point guards in college and the NBA that play similar to himself,” he said. “In the past few weeks John has been watching Kris Dunn, Reggie Jackson, Kira Lewis, the former Alabama point guard who is project to be a first round pick this year, and David Duke from Providence.”
Kallon says he likes to ‘share the ball’ and ‘change speeds a lot’.
“I’m not the fastest player, but I’m not the slowest player, so I can move differently on the court,” he said. “I need to shoot more. It’s not that I shy away from it, but it just happens.”
