Bloomfield Tech guard R.J. Hall will opt out of his verbal commitment to Florida Atlantic because of the recent coaching change. Rex Walters left Florida Atlantic to become the head coach at San Francisco. Hall did not sign a National Letter of Intent when he committed in December.
“He’s looking at Boston University, New Hampshire, La Salle and Robert Morris,” said Tech coach Nick Mariniello, who’s coaching the Suburban Team in Saturday’s Jordan Brand Regional Game at Madison Square Garden.
Mariniello said he has heard from Florida Atlantic assistant Jeff Guin, but not from Walters or anyone above him.
The 5-10 Hall, a first-team All-Essex County selection, averaged 14 points last season for Tech, which finished 23-6 and reached the North 2, Group 1 final.
“He’s an excellent floor leader, with excellent leadership skills,” Mariniello said. “He’s a very good on-the-ball defender and he has strong perimeter skills.
“Hopefully, Monday or Tuesday we’ll try to take care of some visits.”
