NCAA grants Marquette transfer D.J. Carton immediate eligibility

By JACOB POLACHECK

The Marquette men’s basketball team received some good news Wednesday as transfer guard D.J. Carton was granted immediate eligibility for the 2020-21 season.

Carton, a 6-foot-1, 190-pound point guard, averaged 10.4 points, 3.0 assists and 2.8 rebounds in 23.9 minutes per game, playing in 20 games for the Buckeyes during the 2019-20 season

He took a leave of absence to work on his mental health in late January, before announcing his intentions to transfer on March 19.

Marquette will also return backcourt players Koby McEwen, Greg Elliott and Symir Torrence. Redshirt shooting guard Dexter Akanno is also in the mix for playing time.

Coming out of high school, Carton was ranked as the No. 34 overall player in the Class of 2019, per 247Sports.
