Miami adds Stony Brook transfer Elijah Olaniyi

By ADAM ZAGORIA

Miami on Sunday added a key transfer in Stony Brook’s Elijah Olaniyi, who will sit the upcoming season and play in 2021-22.

“Miami was the fit and opportunity for me,” he said. “I want to bring my experience, leadership, and willingness to win to an already strong culture at Miami!”

The 6-foot-5 Newark native and former Newark East Side standout averaged 18.0 points and 6.5 rebounds en route to All-America East honors last season as a junior at Stony Brook. He averaged 12.3 points and 5.9 rebounds as a sophomore.

Miami also adds shooting guard Earl Timberlake and power forward Matt Cross, as well as sit-out transfer Nysier Brooks.

Olaniyi is one of four Stony Brook transfers, including senior guard Makale Foreman, a Chattanooga transfer who averaged 15.6 points; 6-5 senior Andrew Garcia, an all-conference second-teamer who averaged 13.4 points and a team-best 6.7 rebounds, and 6-8 junior Anthony Ochefu.
