Dontrez Styles has committed to North Carolina, he announced Saturday in a video call with 247Sports’ Evan Daniels.
“Just Roy Williams, he’s a Hall of Fame coach, it’s close to home and my parents can come watch me play,” Styles told 247Sports. “I feel like that’s the best place for me to develop and get to the next level.”
Styles, a 6-foot-6 forward from Kinston (NC), chose North Carolina over Clemson, Maryland, NC State, Pittsburgh, DePaul, East Carolina, Georgetown, Ole Miss, St. John’s, Texas A&M and Wake Forest, among others.
He is ranked by 247Sports as the No. 57 overall player in the Class of 2021 and the No. 1 player from the state of North Carolina.
He is the first commitment in North Carolina’s 2021 class.
The Tar Heels are also in contention for 2020 guard Kerwin Walton, who is set to announce on April 25. He is down to a final six of UNC, Arizona, Creighton, Georgetown, Minnesota, and Vanderbilt.
