UConn’s Alterique Gilbert will transfer

By ADAM ZAGORIA

UConn coach Dan Hurley announced Thursday that junior guard Alterique Gilbert will transfer.

He will have one year of eligibility.

The former McDonald’s All-American from Georgia had an injury-plagued career at UConn, where he averaged 8.5 points, 3.8 assists and 2.6 rebounds last season.

“He needs a fresh start, an opportunity to find a place that can give him everything he needs,” Hurley said.

UConn also loses guard Christian Vital to graduation.
