Cam Thomas, the 6-foot-3 shooting guard from Oak Hill (VA) Academy, committed to LSU on Monday, as first reported by ESPN’s Paul Biancardi.
“The deciding factors for me was Will Wade consistency in staying in touch with me and my mom,” Thomas said. “The style of play fits me best and [Wade] believes in me. I respect that a lot.”
Thomas took an official visit to NC State in October 2018 before visiting LSU in early September. He later took official visits to Auburn and UCLA. He was also considering UConn.
“What I enjoyed most from my visit was the coaches and how the team plays and practices,” Thomas said.
Thomas joins Jalen Cook and Bradley Ezewiro as the third commit in the Tigers’ 2020 class.
“They want me to come in and be a scorer/all-around player who can help them win,” Thomas said. “I’ll fit in great with the system because coach Wade allow me to be me.”
According to 247Sports, Thomas is ranked as the No. 25 overall player in the Class of 2020 and the No. 2 player from the state of Virginia.
“Cam is as good a scorer of the basketball of any player I have coached in my 37 years at Oak Hill,” said Oak Hill head coach Steve Smith. “His ability to shoot the three, score off the dribble, on pull-ups, on runners, and at the basket, are unmatched by any player in his class.”
“He does all these things with ease and an understanding well beyond his basketball years,” said Smith. “He is a tremendous passer, which is a skill that goes unnoticed because of his ability to score.”
