D.J. Gordon commits to Penn State

By ADAM ZAGORIA

D.J. Gordon, the 6-foot-6, 175-pound shooting guard from First Love Christian Academy and Team Final, committed to Penn State on Wednesday.

Ranked the No. 34 shooting guard nationally by 247Sports.com, Gordon chose Penn State over Pittsburgh, Providence, Minnesota, VCU and Iowa. He visited Penn State officially Sept. 14 and has also visited unofficially.

“D.J. is one of the toughest players I’ve been around,” Team Final director Aaron Burt said. “He was injured all spring and summer and never complained. He competed like he was fighting for minutes every day.

“He’s super athletic, competitive and coachable. He has all the tools to be an elite defender and an explosive scorer. His toughness and passion is second to none.”

Gordon joins point guard Dallion Johnson and small forward Caleb Dorsey in Penn State’s 2020 class. Penn State has one scholarship left and is focusing on junior college forward Valdir Manuel.

“D.J. is a tremendous athlete with a high motor,” First Love coach Khayree Wilson said. “He loves to compete every day. He is a great perimeter defender who is fearless. Penn State just got a kid they can depend on.”
