North Carolina meets with R.J. Davis ahead of official visit

By ADAM ZAGORIA

North Carolina assistant Hubert Davis met with Class of 2020 point guard R.J. Davis on Tuesday at Archbishop Stepinac High School (N.Y.) ahead of Davis’ official visit to UNC this weekend.

Tar Heels head coach Roy Williams and Hubert Davis visited R.J. last month as well.

“They’re trying to recruit two guards because obviously Cole [Anthony] is projected to go to the NBA, so they’re looking for two guards to come in and play alongside each other,” Davis told me last month. “They’re recruiting Cade Cunningham and Caleb Love. I know they feel that was a downfall last year with Coby White being their only point guard, to have two guards next year.”

Love committed to the Tar Heels on Oct. 1, and they still remain involved for Cunningham, who is also considering Kentucky, Florida, Oklahoma State and Washington.

Davis, meantime, has a final four of North Carolina, Marquette, Georgetown and Pitt. His North Carolina visit will be his final official, and he has yet to set an announcement date.

Pitt coach Jeff Capel and assistants are due in on Wednesday (today).
