Kentucky to see Class of 2021 star Jonathan Kuminga

By ADAM ZAGORIA

Having landed Lance Ware and Terrence Clarke for the Class of 2020 in the past several days, Kentucky will now turn its attention to Class of 2021 star Jonathan Kuminga.

Wildcats head coach John Calipari and associate head coach Kenny Payne are expected to see the 6-foot-7 Kuminga Monday at The Patrick School (N.J.), sources said. Kuminga and Ware were teammates this summer with the NY Rens on the Nike EYBL Circuit.

The No. 1 player in the Class of 2021 and the projected No. 1 pick in the ’22 draft according to some mocks, Kuminga transferred to the Jersey power from Our Savior New American, as first reported by ZAGSBLOG. Like Clarke, it’s possible he could reclassify to 2020, although he is keeping his options open.

Calipari has had tremendous success at The Patrick School and its predecessor St. Patrick in recent years — landing Nick Richards, Michael Kidd-Gilchrist and Dakari Johnson from the school, while pulling Ware (Camden), Kahlil Whitney (Roselle Catholic) and Isaiah Briscoe (RC) from the Garden State as well.

LSU, Nebraska, Maryland and Auburn are among the schools to see Kuminga since last week’s recruiting period began. Duke and Texas Tech are also expected to be involved.

Calipari began the period by seeing Cade Cunningham at Montverde (FL) Academy and then Clarke at Brewster (N.H.) Academy. He also saw Ware, Isaiah Todd and Greg Brown.

Kuminga is one of a handful of Class of ’21 players with Kentucky offers. That group also includes Patrick Baldwin Jr., Paolo Banchero, and Devin Askew.
