C.J. Wilcher to Xavier

By ADAM ZAGORIA

C.J. Wilcher, the 6-foot-5, 209-pound Class of 2020 shooting guard from St. Benedict’s Prep and the Albany City Rocks, committed to Xavier Friday, per his Instagram page.

Wilcher held offers from numerous other schools.

“It’s just the perfect fit all-around academically, socially and basketball-wise,” Wilcher told ZAGSBLOG.

“I felt extremely comfortable with the coaching and I know for a fact I can be developed there and be able to achieve my goals.”

He added: “I was considering everyone that was recruiting me but I didn’t think anyone can build a relationship with me like coach [Travis] Steele and coach [Dante] Jackson built with me.”

Wilcher averaged 17.7 points, 4.7 rebounds and 2.3 assists while shooting 39 percent from deep (65 threes) last year at St. Benedict’s.

“C.J. is a tremendous player who has dedicated himself to getting in the gym and putting in the work,” St. Benedict’s coach Mark Taylor said. “He has outworked any player I have had the opportunity to have coached. And he is reaping the benefits. CJ is a multidimensional scorer that can change the game and momentum at any time. We are very excited for C.J. and know he will achieve greatness.”

Wilcher joins point guard Dwon Odom in Xavier’s 2020 class.
