Kenyon Martin Jr., the son of former NBA player Kenyon Martin, is bypassing college basketball at Vanderbilt to pursue professional options, a source confirmed to ZAGSBLOG Wednesday. The story was first reported by 247Sports.
Martin, the 6-foot-6 small forward from Chatsworth (CA) Sierra Canyon, originally committed to Vanderbilt on May 5th and signed a Letter of Intent shortly after. He is yet to sign a professional deal.
This move comes a little more than a week after five-star prospect R.J. Hampton announced his decision to skip college and play overseas for the New Zealand Breakers of the Australian Basketball League.
As a senior at Sierra Canyon, Martin averaged 16.4 points and nine rebounds, while helping lead the Trailblazers to a CIF Open Division championship and a 32-3 record.
Martin was set to head to Vanderbilt with high school teammate Scotty Pippen Jr., the the son of the former NBA star. Pippen is still headed to Vanderbilt.
Vanderbilt now has two scholarships available for the 2019-20 roster. They currently have a four-man class of Pippen, Dylan Disu, Jordan Wright and Oton Jankovic.
