UConn lands Howard transfer R.J. Cole

By ADAM ZAGORIA

Howard transfer R.J. Cole is headed to UConn, as first reported by Evan Daniels.

Cole, who averaged 21.4 points, 6.4 assists and 4.1 rebounds last season, chose the Huskies over Alabama.

The 6-foot-1, 185-pound native of Union, N.J. will sit one year to play two.

“UConn was a lifelong dream for me,” he told Pat Lawless. “The family environment, the coaching staff and the tradition is something that I want to be a part of.”

Cole visited UConn officially from Monday-Wednesday. UConn’s Dan Hurley and Kimani Young had already met with Cole and his parents.

Cole will become the second player after Tarin Smith to play for both Bob Hurley Sr. and Dan Hurley.

“Playing for Danny would be nice, it would keep things in the family type thing,” Cole said before he committed. “I played for his father. He just wants an older to come in and be ready to play because they have younger guards.”
