UNC lands grad transfer Justin Pierce

By: ROB ROSE

North Carolina Coach Roy Williams added to next year’s Tar Heels roster after William & Mary graduate transfer wing Justin Pierce announced on Thursday he will transfer to North Carolina.

“I’m excited to announce that I am a Tar Heel,” Pierce said in his announcement tweet. “North Carolina offers me the best opportunity to chase my dreams on and off the court. While playing on the biggest stage, I will also be earning my MBA and building lifelong connections that will help me pursue my goal of working in the front office of an NBA organization after my playing career ends. I’m excited to join the family and to compete for a national championship next year!”

The 6-foot-7 Pierce averaged career highs last season with 14.9 points per game and 8.9 rebounds per game. In the 2017-18 season, Pierce averaged 14.7 points per game and 8.6 rebounds per game.

Pierce joins fellow graduate transfer Christian Keeling from Charleston Southern and North Carolina’s No. 6-ranked recruiting class by ESPN. The class is headlined by No. 2 recruit Cole Anthony, No. 17-ranked Armando Bacot and No. 75 recruit Anthony Harris.

The incoming class of freshman and transfers will attempt to replace the production of Coby White, Nassir LittleCameron JohnsonLuke Maye, Kenny Williams and Seventh Woods.
