Class of 2020 point guard Lamont Butler talks Rice visit

By JACOB POLACHECK

Lamont Butler Jr., the 6-foot-1 point guard from Riverside Polytechnic (CA) High School, took his second official visit to Rice on Thursday (Jan. 3). He spoke with ZAGSBLOG Saturday about the visit:

“I loved it,” said Butler. “The culture built at Rice and the people connected to Rice really appealed to me.”

In addition to Rice, Butler also holds offers from schools such as Harvard, San Diego State, Saint Mary’s, Washington, Boise State, Cal State Fullerton, Montana, Pepperdine, San Diego, and Weber State, among others.

“They said I would fit in perfect,” said Butler on Rice. “I could be someone who has the ball in their hand and push the tempo. The way I find people in translation and facilitate would be key if I were to play at Rice.”

Butler took his first official visit to Harvard on November 9. He broke down his visit:

“Firstly, Harvard is one of the greatest schools in the country academically,” he said. “Also, I loved Coach [Tommy] Amaker and the staff at Harvard.”

Butler also has official visits planned to St. Mary’s (Mar. 1-3) and Washington (Mar. 8-10). He broke down each school:

St. Mary’s: “Coach [Randy] Bennett is a great coach who has brought many point guards to the pros. The coaching staff is great as well.”

Washington: “I’ve built a great relationship with coach Dave Rice. Washington has had great guards come out of their program!”

According to 247Sports, Butler is ranked as the No. 231 overall player in the Class of 2020 and the No. 31 player from the state of California.
