Class of 2019 star Anthony Edwards planning officials

By ADAM ZAGORIA

Anthony Edwards, the 6-foot-5 shooting guard from Holy Spirit (GA) Preparatory School who recently reclassified from 2020 to the 2019 recruiting class, is planning several official visits.

Edwards will take officials to Duke, Florida State, Michigan State and Kansas, with Georgia, UCLA and others in the mix, according to USA Today.

Currently ranked No. 4 in 2019 by 247Sports.com, Edwards is down to Duke, Florida State, Georgia, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan State, North Carolina and UCLA. Florida State is considered the heavy favorite.

He said going the G League route next year for the $125,000 salary is not an option.

“I’m going to get the dates for my visits soon,” Edwards told USA Today. “I’m just looking for the school where I’ll develop the most. I’m not looking at who’s there, who committed there or anything like that; I just want to go where I can develop and take my game to another level.”

He broke down several schools recently for 247Sports:

Florida State: “Florida State’s pitch has been to come here, the offense is set up for a player like you and you’ll get as many buckets as you want.”

Georgia: “With Georgia, Tom Crean is a great coach. He’s had two players I’ve looked up to a lot, Dwyane Wade and Victor Oladipo.”

Kentucky: “Kentucky is just a great school and a great program with a great fan base and stuff like that.”

Michigan State: “Tom Izzo is a great coach. Some people I know have went there and a Hall of Famer that I know has gone there and he tells me about Tom Izzo all the time and says he’s a great person and that it’s a good school.”

North Carolina: “I talk to him all the time. They say come here and we are going to get you in the league and he said they are going to get me in the best shape.. He always say he’s a winning and he coached the great ever and he didn’t coach him for no reason.”

He has taken unofficial visits to Auburn, Clemson, and Florida State.
