Akok Akok has withdrawn from Putnam Science (CT) and will enroll in college in January, he told 247Sports.com.
“Since I have already graduated high school, it makes sense at this point that I study at home for the SAT, which I am taking for the first time on December 1st,” Akok said.
“I would like to thank Putnam Science Academy’s teachers, coaches, students and especially my teammates for all they have done for me,” he added. “I will be focusing on the SAT in the immediate future and will then address basketball to determine what college is the best fit for me.”
Because he is one year removed from his graduating class, the 6-foot-10 Akok is eligible for the 2019 NBA Draft, but now appears set on enrolling in college in January.
Akok lists UConn, Georgetown, Providence, Pittsburgh and Syracuse as his final five schools. UConn coach Dan Hurley and his staff have been heavily pursuing Akok and would love to add a big man to their roster.
“I’m just weighing out the options,” Akok told reporters last week at the National Prep Showcase.
“I feel I can picture myself going to UConn,” Akok added. “It’s a great school, it would be a great situation where I could stay at home and contribute.”
“They said I could come in and be a big contributor,” he added, “and that I could change the team and bring the team different places and help them win a national championship.”
