Vern Carey cuts to three, axes Kentucky, Miami

By ADAM ZAGORIA

Vernon Carey, the 6-foot-10 big man from the University School (FL) and Nike Team Florida, trimmed his list to three schools on Wednesday.

Ranked No. 3 in the 2019 ESPN 100, Carey is down to Duke, Michigan State and North Carolina.

The move was expected and involved cutting Kentucky and Miami, his father’s alma mater.

Kentucky has had a tough week, missing out on James Wiseman when he chose Memphis and now missing the cut for Carey, while Miami has missed out on both Carey and C.J. Walker, who earlier Wednesday announced for Oregon.

Carey is one of several elite players expected to sign in the spring, along with Cole Anthony, Isaiah Stewart and Matthew Hurt.

The NCAA late period runs April 17-May 15.
