Anthony Edwards, the 6-foot-5 shooting guard from Holy Spirit (GA) Preparatory School, will reclassify from 2020 to the 2019 recruiting class, he told 247Sports Tuesday.
“Just thinking and talking about it, I decided to reclassify to 2019,” said Edwards. “I thought it was better for me and my family.”
With the move, Edwards will be ranked as the No. 1 player in the Class of 2019 according to 247Sports, moving James Wiseman into the No. 2 spot. Wiseman will make his college decision Tuesday.
Edwards told 247Sports that Florida State, Georgia, Kentucky, Michigan State and North Carolina are the schools prioritizing him. All five schools have offered him a scholarship.
He broke down each school:
Florida State: “Florida State’s pitch has been to come here, the offense is set up for a player like you and you’ll get as many buckets as you want.”
Georgia: “With Georgia, Tom Crean is a great coach. He’s had two players I’ve looked up to a lot, Dwyane Wade and Victor Oladipo.”
Kentucky: “Kentucky is just a great school and a great program with a great fan base and stuff like that.”
Michigan State: “Tom Izzo is a great coach. Some people I know have went there and a Hall of Famer that I know has gone there and he tells me about Tom Izzo all the time and says he’s a great person and that it’s a good school.”
North Carolina: “I talk to him all the time. They say come here and we are going to get you in the league and he said they are going to get me in the best shape.. He always say he’s a winning and he coached the great ever and he didn’t coach him for no reason.”
He has taken unofficial visits to Auburn, Clemson, and Florida State.
“I don’t have any [official visit] dates yet, but I know for sure I’m going to set up visit for Florida State and Michigan State,” Edwards said. “I haven’t decided about the other three.”
