St. John’s on Monday added junior college guard Cameron Mack, who committed and then signed a National Letter of Intent.
The 6-foot-3 Austin, Texas native will have three years of eligibility remaining.
Mack said he chose St. John’s because “it feels like home here and they have two Hall Fame coaches [Chris Mullin and Mitch Richmond]. And me and Matt [Abdelmassih] had a real awesome connection when we started the process.”
“I’m bringing be my vision to get people open and the passion of me winning.”
He was also recruited by Washington State, San Diego State, Gonzaga and West Virginia.
Mack is averaging 20.6 points and 5.2 rebounds at Salt Lake Community College, which is 4-1.
“I think he’s probably one of the top two point guards in junior college right now,” Salt Lake coach Todd Phillips said by phone. “He’s a really good point guard. He’s athletic, quick, explosive. He can really get to the basket, sees the floor. He’s shooting it 50 percent from three right now and 6-for-7 the other night from three.
“He’s just an overall point guard. He can really pass the ball. He can get guys in transition. I think they’re getting a really good player. The game’s easy for him. He’s a high-end guy.”
Meantime, Ian Steere, the 6-9 N.C. State transfer who visited St. John’s this past weekend, is expected to decide in the coming days, a source said.
