Dan Hurley serenaded by UConn fans after ejection at Madison Square Garden

By ADAM ZAGORIA

NEW YORK — Dan Hurley didn’t come out of the 2K Classic with a championship, but he did help cement his status as a huge cult hero among UConn fans.

Hurley was ejected in the closing moments of a 91-72 loss to Iowa after notching his second technical foul, and the UConn fans serenaded him with chants of, “Dan-ny Hur-ley.”

“I probably don’t want to put myself inside the minds of that crew tonight,” Hurley said of the second technical foul call. “It was what it was.”

He added: “We all have to be accountable for our performance.”

The UConn players appreciated that their coach stood up for them, and that their fans did as well.

“UConn nation’s going to be behind us no matter what,” said Jalen Adams, who went for 20 points in the loss. “It’s great to have that fan support .”

Hurley has been blowing up Twitter with his emotional expressions in two days at the Garden. UConn is now 3-1 with the win over former Big East rival Syracuse.
