D.J. Jeffries, the 6-foot-7 small forward from Olive Branch (MS) High School and onetime Kentucky pledge, committed to Memphis on Saturday.

According to 247Sports, Jeffries is ranked as the No. 47 overall player in the Class of 2019 and the No. 1 player from the state of Mississippi.
Before committing to Kentucky in March, Jeffries was also considering Mississippi State and Alabama. With Penny Hardaway as the new head coach at Memphis, the Tigers were expected to be in strong consideration.
The day DJ Jeffries committed to Kentucky, his father said this on our show (at that time, Penny to Memphis wasn't done): “We took a long look at Memphis. We can’t go on ‘ifs.’ It’s kinda crazy, because if Penny takes the job, then it would be something to take a long look at.”

Jeffries joins 6-8 power forward Malcolm Dandridge in Memphis’ 2019 class.
James Wiseman, the No. 1 player in the Class of 2019 and an AAU teammate of Jeffries, is also considering Kentucky and Memphis among his top schools. Wiseman takes his official visit to Memphis this weekend.
Memphis also remains in the hunt for Matthew Hurt, Trendon Watford, Boogie Ellis and Jahmius Ramsey.
“It’s always a positive as Trendon needs to have other good players surrounding,” Ernest Watford said. “We believe a player(s) of DJ’s caliber can only enhance Trendon’s overall game. It allows Trendon to showcase his point/forward skill set, which allows him to play positionless basketball. We like the commitment.”
