Tyler Bertram commits to Charlotte, will redshirt 2018-19 season

By ADAM ZAGORIA

Tyler Bertram, the 6-foot-4 guard from Vermont Academy (VT) and the NY Rens AAU program, committed to UNC-Charlotte on Tuesday and will redshirt the 2018-19 season, he told ZAGSBLOG.

Bertram also considered Loyola-Chicago, St. Joe’s, Hofstra, George Washington, Rice and Brown.

“I loved the whole coaching staff,” he said of his official vist. “I felt very connected with Coach [Rey] Sanchez and the rest of them. I really liked the team and how I would fit in as well. The offense fit me very well and I could see myself playing in that system. Most importantly I could just see myself going to school there. I loved the campus and it just felt perfect.”

Charlotte will redshirt Bertram and then utilize his shooting beginning in 2019-20.  He averaged 24 points per game in the final two months of the season, and scored 31 in the Hoophall Classic against Anfernee Simons and IMG Academy.

“I think I bring a lot of shooting and a high IQ,” he said.

Said Vermont Academy coach Alex Popp: “Tyler Bertram is a super-skilled combo guard with sneaky athleticism and tremendous dexterity.”
