DJ Jeffries decommits from Kentucky

By JACOB POLACHECK

DJ Jeffries, the 6-foot-7 small forward from Olive Branch (MS) High School, de-committed from Kentucky on Monday, via Twitter.

“After careful consideration, prayer, and countless hours of consulting with my family, I [have] decided to reopen recruitment,” said Jeffries. “It was a hard decision, but I am confident that in taking my time to choose the right school for me to better myself educationally and athletically, is the right choice.”

Jeffries de-commitment leaves Tyrese Maxey as the only 2019 commit for the Wildcats. They are still in play for several 2019 prospects including consensus No. 1 player James Wiseman, who included Kentucky in his final eight schools earlier this week and Kahlil Whitney, who will take an official visit August 3-4.

According to 247Sports, Jeffries is ranked as the No. 37 overall player in the Class of 2019 and the No. 1 player from the state of Mississippi.

Before committing to Kentucky in March, Jeffries was also considering Mississippi State and Alabama. With Penny Hardaway as the new head coach at Memphis, the Tigers are expected to be in strong consideration.
